Around the French Quarter

I had literally about 45 minutes to spare so I decided to walk around the French Quarter in the afternoon. I snapped a few photos around the block. Wish I had more time to visit Cafe Du Monde and hang out in Jackson Square. One place I walked by brought back memories from my 1st visit a couple of years back at The Dungeon.

Port of Call – New Orleans

With an hour and a half to kill before my flight back home to San Diego, I had chosen Port of Call as the one place I had to eat at. I’ve heard of Port of Call the other times I’ve been to New Orleans but never got the chance to make it out.

Talk about a hole in the wall… you’d never think there was a restaurant there by looking at the sign or front door. It was literally like walking in a hole in the wall. When inside I was surprised and felt like I was in a super secret restaurant as it had never looked liked how it looked from the outside. I guess this puts the “never judge a book by its cover” rule into play.

The menu was simple, burger or cheddar burger. Instead of a side a french fries it come with a baked potato. I think I didn’t set up my burger good enough with the sauces that were in front of me. In fact I didn’t use them, which I regret. Still was a good burger but I think the fact that I didn’t put any of the sauces in front of me caused my to think my baked potato stole the show. It was loaded and it was delicious.

I can’t wait until I go back! Thank you NOLA!

Hornet vs Suns – New Orleans Arena

Went to the Hornets vs Suns game at the New Orleans Arena with our ING KiDS ROCK New Orleans team. Luckily I was in town the same night this we happening. It was my first NBA regular season game ever and we had a sweet suite. Plus nothing like Hugo the Hornet and the Honeybee’s coming to our suite just to visit me since they heard I was in town. Had a great time and had a chance to witness the NBA atmosphere.

Tropicana Field

Another sports venue/stadium I can kinda mark off my list is Tropicana Field, the home of the Tampa Bay Rays. Technically I only walked around the stadium as I my time was permitting but you can say I was here.

St Petersburg, Florida

After my filming of the Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Pete 1/2 Marathon course in my yellow Camaro rental, I drove around the area to soak as much as I could before my afternoon departure. It was a perfect day by the bay. It was a nice sunny San Diego-ish weather type of day. The one thing I’m not used to yet in the south is their type of grass everywhere. Very thick and not ideal to run around and play in as we do here in SD.

Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg

Last week I stayed at one of the US Historic Hotels in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Vinoy Renaissance Resort is located bay front of St. Pete right by The Pier. This hotel was build back in the 1920′s and has been some closures since then but was fairly recently remodeled. The hotel has a great location for any visitor who wants to be able to get out and walk around the bay. This hotel has been a retreat for the rich and famous like Marilyn Monroe, Jimmy Stewart, Calvin Coolidge.

Once I got to my room the first thing I did was order room service. I had a nice over night stay and wasn’t bothered by any ghosts or anything haunting happening as I thought I would encounter after reading the historic information about it.

2011 Chargers vs Ravens

The last home game of the season was a blast. Definitely ended on a good one as our tailgate was on a good one. Nothing like spending the last tailgate with good friends and good food.

Pizzeria Bianco – Phoenix, AZ

So my last stop before my flight home, I scoured google for places you have to eat in Phoenix and came across this place. People were raving how good this pizza is and ranting on how long the wait is (1-3 hour during dinner) so I thought it was a must-go.

I was wrong. I sat in a little after lunch so it was empty and I had a corner table to myself. Really cool atmosphere and buildings since it was located in the historical Heritage Square. However I didn’t think the pizza was up to par with the hype. I actually find Dominoes better pizza than this. The cheese would often slide off too easily and all I’m left with was a really thin, plain piece of dough.

Don’t get me wrong, pizza is pizza, so of course I demolished it.

Tempe, Arizona

Headed out to Arizona after the new years for a little business trip. My objective was to film the Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona half marathon and full marathon courses for the course tour we make. It was just perfect weather in AZ for the 2 days I was there. After filming the courses, spent some time at the Tempe Beach Park to relax and shoot some photos and luckily I came away with some really cool perspective shots.

A couple of weeks ago Geoff and I hit up the CMRCC for a little post-hangover golf relaxation. Nothing beats a cheap twilight, empty golf course.
